About Us
Welcome to Classical Crates, where we bring legendary Greek and Roman stories right to your doorstep. Each crate includes your very own action figure of a famous hero or heroine along with an illustrated storybook so you can learn all about that figure’s magical powers and epic adventures. Also, you’ll have hands-on arts and crafts projects in each box so that you can construct your own Colosseum from construction paper or make your own wearable laurel.
Our mission is to excite and inspire young students to discover the wonders of the classical world so they can appreciate the rich, cultural, and artistic legacy of Greece and Rome. In addition, we see the exploration of the past as a guide to learning about human characteristics and values that are just as relevant today.
Classical Crates is dedicated to broadening access to the study of ancient cultures, particularly for underserved students who might not otherwise have exposure to this type of curriculum. In fact, we see this type of education as even more important in low-income schools, where students especially need more opportunities to challenge their imagination and creativity and think of the world in terms of limitless possibility. We encourage students to study Latin and see this beautiful language as still very much alive.
About the Founder
Hey everyone! My name is Richard, and I am currently a junior at Phillips Academy Andover. In 5th grade, my school offered a rotation of Spanish, French and Latin. After a year of exposure to these three beautiful languages, I decided to take Latin for the rest of middle school. Thanks to my Latin teacher Magistra Robinson, a passionate Latinist, I fell in love of the ancient language with its rich history and culture. I’ve been continuing my Latin study during my high school years and I started taking Ancient Greek as my third language this year. Back then, what drew me in the most were the engaging experiences I would have with Magistra, whether it be attending a Friday afternoon toga dining party, performing a Roman skit, or writing our own mythological stories.
My goal is to replicate this special learning environment for kids who want to learn but do not have the opportunities in school to do so. I want to share my passion for these two ancient languages and cultures through their extensive histories, enchanting mythologies, and fun activities. I hope our boxes encapsulate a child’s love for the past!
